Denmark’s The Kandidate smash their debut album into metal’s collective face with a middle finger and a large swig of whisky. Sounding like a far more convincing version of The Haunted, they have taken the Scandinavian death metal sound, rolled it up with some thrash and smoked it very fast. I have developed a bit of a soft spot for Jacob Bredahl since I saw him with Hatesphere at Wacken a few years ago, I think he has an awesome voice, great stage presence and generally makes me like music that I wouldn’t normally go for. With his former band stalling on their last album, The Kandidate could very easily eclipse them and take centre stage in Denmark’s metal scene. The album has a good diversity of sound, going from the frantic drumming of opener ‘Strength Through Diversity’ to the lurching mid album instrumental ‘We Conform to the Unrighteous’ and the out right awesome ‘Live a Lie’. ‘Until we are Outnumbered’ is a balls out metalcore tinged thrash album, if you liked the Jacob Bredahl era Hatesphere then this band is for you! Come to England soon!                        Carl Sucharyna Thomas Â
