The first song on this album is the title track “Indestructible.” From the opening riff it is disappointing. The rhythm guitar and backline sound exactly like “Stricken” from 2005’s “Ten Thousand Fists,” musically it doesn’t really change into the next gear. David Draiman’s vocals sound slightly amateurish, as if the honey monster was trying to do a Jonathan Davis impersonation. The song’s saving grace is that Dan Donagan (Guitars) seems to have gone 80’s thrash in his solos this perked my interest in an otherwise drab and mundane song. “Inside the fire” the first single from “Indestructible” has a rather catchy Synthesised intro fools you into feeling like something epic is about to happen. Then the guitars kick in and you realise unfortunately this is not the case. This song has the same problem as most songs do on this album. It just sounds too similar to the previous material. The guitar line is catchy, the solo is good, there are vocal hooks there but it’s just too generic. If I had to describe this album in one sentence I’d use “Played out.” I think it’s all too easy to write to a formula and sell records (Linkin Park and Nickleback have done it their whole career.) I think there is some potential for this band to make something truly special, after all the tools are there. I’d rate Dan Donegan as one of the unsung heroes of the guitar world. I think if they want to make it to the next level they need to start taking risks in their music. I give this album 6/10.
